Manganese Violet PV16 shouldn't look like this
I bought this tube of Renesans Intense Manganese Violet (PV16) and it looked pretty pale when I first swatched it out. I had no experience with this pigment, so assumed it was supposed to look that way.
Fast forward several months, I go to fill up my half pan and everything comes out brown! I thought at first it might just be a bit of binder separation, but the whole tube had turned brown. This is definitely not normal, and in hindsight, the colour was definitely off to begin with.
I got in touch with the retailer who I bought it from, and they confirmed it was a bad batch — apparently PV16 can be difficult.
Luckily all the other tubes I have from Renesans are fine. I'm not game enough to try their version of Manganese Violet again (or any PV16 in a tube, for that matter), though I do have some lovely full pans of PV16 from Umton and Roman Szmal*.
If you get a bad tube of paint, or if something just doesn't look quite right, get in touch with either the retailer or manufacturer to get a refund.
