Tombow Irojiten Volumes 4–6 Colour Chart

There are 30 colours that make up 'Woodlands', the second edition in the Tombow Irojiten coloured pencil range. Like the first set, these are organised by tone into three volumes of ten pencils. 'Woodlands' contains:

  • Volume 4 pale tone II
  • Volume 5 deep tone II
  • Volume 6 light greyish tone I

Here I've swatched them onto 185gsm hot pressed Arches watercolour paper. The colours are swatched in the same order they appear in the set. The left side of each circle shows the full strength of the colour, and the right side has a light layer.

If I had to choose only one out of the three Tombow Irojiten Color Dictionary sets, this would be it. 

The deep tones are gorgeous on paper, despite looking utterly uninspiring when the pencils are just sitting in the box. They also look more cohesive as a set than the deep tones in the first set do.

The only minor issue that I have with this set is that Gamboge and Apricot are very, very similar, particularly when used lightly. If I were curating this set, I'd swap either one of those two out for Coral Pink from the first set.
